Provisioning and connecting your EAGLE 3 to the smart meter

Your Utility must provision your meter to allow it to communicate with your EAGLE 3. This is something they can do remotely, using the Utility meter network. Once the meter is provisioned, it will recognize your device when it is powered up and will connect with it wirelessly.

To complete the provisioning, your Utility requires the MAC Address and Install Code (IN) of your device to register it with the meter. You can find these two numbers on the label on the side of your device:

Please contact your Utility and provide:

  • Your utility account number
  • Your home address
  • The MAC Address and Install Code (IN) from your device

Your utility may have a website or form that needs to be used to request provisioning.  Check this link (https://www.rainforestautomation.com/utilities/) to find out.

Steps to connect your device

  1. Ensure your EAGLE 3 is powered on.
  2. Make sure the device is connected to the Cloud (online).
  3. Once the utility provisions your meter, your EAGLE 3 will automatically pair with the meter over Zigbee wireless.  When this happens, you will see the red LED light on top of your EAGLE go from flashing to solid on.
  4. Verify the connection by checking that your energy data appears in the Rainge app.

⚠️ Note:

Sometimes the provisioning process may fail. If you experience issues, please check the article “Troubleshooting provisioning and meter connection issues” for additional guidance.
